Along the architectural sights and cultural events, there are a lot of opportunities for sports and outdoor activities that Miercurea Ciuc has to offer. The Harghita mountains and the surrounding forests of the town present a great experience at all seasons. They are remarkable outdoor sights to see. There are a numerous ski facilities as well in the area in winter. The rink of the town is not only home of ice hockey but also for all skate lovers. Right next to it there is also an outdoor speed-skating course.
Due to the town’s recent developments the town holds a soccer field, coliseum and a swimming pool and more and more bike lanes that give to both visitors and locals a great opportunity for useful leisure. There is a rich selection of outdoor public swimming pools in summer, of which the one in Băile Jigodin is probably the most intriguing with its mineral water pool.
There are a lot of green zones and parks in the town, but also a garden of herbs, that are beloved places by the locals.

Șumuleu Ciuc – Ski run

Located on the northern side of Șumuleu Mic post volcanic cone, the ski run called Șumuleu Mic Ski Run is a beloved ski location for the locals. The length of this run is 397 m on the elevation of 822,6 m. This is the closest ski run to the town even for night skiing, too. The skiers can use a lift towing them up with a speed of 2,5m/sec. There is a buffet at the bottom of the run with hot drinks and heated patio, too.

Ski run – Tolvajos Top - Triad Cross

The Tolvajos Top is a beloved stop for the tourist buses as it is situated at 36 km from Odorheiu Secuiesc and 16 km from Miercurea Ciuc. In 1567 here took place the battle between the catholics from Ciuc and Gheorgheni against the battalion of János Zsigmond missionary. The Pentecostal Pilgrimage of Șumuleu Ciuc is held in the memory of this battle.
However the Tolvajos Top is significant not only because of its historical aspect but it is suitable for leisure, hikes and walks, sports etc. There is also a ski run with lift available here for the ski lovers not only for the locals but for tourists coming from afar as well.

Harghita Băi – ski runs

Harghita Băi belongs under the administration of Miercurea Ciuc. It is a mountain resort with local interest renowned for its mineral water springs, mofettas, ski sloaps and Cornish stone exploitation (not any more) used from centuries as spa and recreation facilities.
Situated between 1250-1400m above see level on the east side of the Harghita-Ciceu mountain it is connected to Miercurea Ciuc by a 23km long street, called Harghita street. It is accessible from the connecting road between Miercurea Ciuc and Odorheiu Secuiesc, by exiting on the road towards the resort at the Tolvajos-Top (triad cross), which is a 7 km long, good quality road easy running in winter, too.
This favorite ski-resort of the residents of Ciuc is famous about its remarkable cold weather due to meteorological phenomena called basin effect. The winter here is long and very snowy. There is enough snow for skiing for usually 4 months. The average depth of snow is 60-70 cm.
The biggest ski-resort of Ciuc region has 5 different difficulty level ski runs: Csipike, Miklós, Kossuth, Ózon and Snowtubing. These runs have 3 lifts. The big lift by the Kossuth run stands for 3 runs. Snowtubing is the newest run in the resort that has been made recently on 150 m long run called “Snow Donut” with own lift. There is a skate rink as well along the ski runs, which was developed in 2010. In summer it is used for tennis and soccer on artificial grass.
